Introduction to Cranial Osteopathy
14-15 June 2025 | 9am-4pm | Preston, VIC, Australia
Introduction to Cranial Osteopathy is a comprehensive two-day course designed to introduce osteopathic practitioners to the principles and techniques of osteopathy in the cranial field. Focused on the subtle manipulation of the cranial bones and their impact on the central nervous system, this course provides in-depth training on assessing and treating dysfunctions related to cranial motion. Ideal for osteopaths looking to expand their therapeutic toolkit, this course emphasises hands-on practice, clinical application, and the holistic benefits of cranial osteopathy in treating a wide range of conditions.
Through this course, you will:
Gain a solid understanding of cranial anatomy, palpation techniques, and treatment approaches
Be enabled to effectively assess and treat cranial dysfunctions in clinical practice
CURRICULUM
What we'll cover
Frontal Anatomy and Motion Palpation
Identify key anatomical landmarks of the frontal bone and understand involuntary axis motion.
Learn techniques for diagnosing external and internal rotation and managing metopic compression.
Practice techniques for releasing frontal eminence moulding and suture moulding.
Parietal Anatomy and Motion Palpation
Study the parietal bone's anatomy and its involuntary motion patterns.
Learn to diagnose external and internal rotation, perform suture palpation, and apply decompression techniques.
Practice palpation of the falx membrane and superior sagittal venous sinus, including drainage.
Release moulding in the parietal eminence.
Sphenobasilar Symphysis (SBS) Palpation
Diagnose physiological strains (flexion, extension, SB/Rot, torsion) and unphysiological strains (compression, lateral, vertical).
Understand the influence of birth processes and interventions on SBS dysfunction.
Learn palpation techniques for diagnosing and treating SBS dysfunctions.
Sacral Palpation
Master palpation techniques for flexion and extension, and identify common strain patterns in the sacrum.
Explore treatment approaches for sacral strains, including synchronising pelvic and thoracic diaphragms.
Overview of Sutherland’s 5 Phenomena
Gain an understanding of Sutherland’s five key phenomena in cranial osteopathy and their clinical application.
Physiology of Involuntary Motion (IVM) and THM Wave
Review current research on the physiology of the Involuntary Motion (IVM) and the THM (Tidal Health Movement) wave.
Brief Palpation of Listening
Introduce the concept of "listening" during cranial palpation to detect subtle changes in tissue tension and cranial rhythms.
Cranial Base Palpation
Study the anatomy and physiology of the cranial base, including occiput and sphenoid bones.
Learn to differentiate between physiological and unphysiological strains at the cranial base.
SBS Diagnosis and Treatment
